Although we designed Mixicles with craft cocktails in mind, one of the things we love about them is that they're versatile. You can put Mixicles in any kind of alcohol, in seltzer, soda, or plain old water, or mix them up in a smoothie to add flavor and nutrients.
Jen has long been a fan of green smoothies. One day, while attempting to get her kids to drink them too, she began experimenting with adding Mixicles to her concoctions. A winning recipe that she came up with incorporates Cucumber Lime Sage Mixicles. With only 2 grams of sugar and 15 calories per cube, Cucumber Lime Sage Mixicles provide a guilt-free way to amp up the flavor of your beverages.
This dairy-free smoothie recipe uses frozen fruit and Mixicles in place of ice. Doing so results in a thicker consistency and doesn't dilute or dull the flavors.
In addition to the Mixicles, you'll need coconut water, kale, an apple, and frozen pineapple and mango.
When placing the ingredients in your blender's container, start with the liquid (to get the blades whirring smoothly and quickly), then add the leafy greens and apple, and lastly the frozen fruit and Mixicles cubes.
Start the blender on medium-low speed, gradually increasing to the highest speed, to enable a vortex to form. (It's also ideal to let the frozen fruit sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before blending, especially if your blender isn't super powerful.) Blend until smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes, and serve.
If you'd like to spike your smoothie (we won't tell), add a little tequila. One shot has only 63 calories, is gluten free, and contains dietary fiber to boot!
Cucumber Kale Smoothie
- 1½ cups coconut water
- 1 apple (preferably Granny Smith)
- 1 to 2 cups kale
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 cup frozen pineapple
- 2 Cucumber Lime Sage Mixicles® cubes
How to Mix:
Add all ingredients to the blender in the order suggested above. Puree until smooth. Pour into a glass and serve.
