Just because Mixicles simplify cocktail-making doesn't mean your drinks have to look simple. One of the easiest ways to dress up a sour is with an egg white foam, and for this recipe we've added a red wine float to create an elegant layered look.
This drink is refreshingly tart, and the frothy egg white topping makes it showy for entertaining. Because it’s so simple to craft, it's an easy way to elevate your cocktail game this holiday weekend.
The base of the Blueberry Lemon Basil Mixicles (found in our Essential Collection) provides the tart, berry, herbal, and sour notes in this drink. Because Mixicles are all-natural and blueberries aren't actually blue (see this post for why that's the case), and because red wine is more burgundy than red, the bottom layers of this drink will look more like shades of purple than red and blue. It's all so tasty, though, we don't think the Founding Fathers would mind. Cheers to freedom!
Red, White & Blue Sour
- 2 Blueberry Lemon Basil Mixicles® cubes
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1 egg white or ¾ ounce aquafaba
- 1 ounce red wine
- Blueberries or lemon twist for garnish (optional)
Combine all ingredients except the red wine in a mixing tin without ice. Shake until you no longer hear the Mixicles® cubes rattling in the tin. Add ice, shake for 10 to 12 seconds, and strain into a chilled coupe or wine glass. Slowly add the wine by pouring it over the back of a spoon. Garnish with a lemon twist or blueberries if desired.
